Artists and Collaborators
The Dance Workshop has worked in close collaboration with John Grech for the last ten years, during which time, he has taken studio and audition photo shoots of our students, as well as photos for our performances. John has also been responsible for producing excellent photographic material for school promos and has created outstanding backdrop projections for our productions. His talent and patience whilst taking studio photo shoots is exceptional and every photo is a testimony to this.

One of the most important aspects of a multi-disciplinary work is finding the right person for a particular task who fits in the team. This is usually very difficult but in the case of John Grech who worked on the photography and videography of my Opera ‘Il-Kantilena’ (2014) the relationship with John was immediately very effective , it was as if we had known each other for years.
Looking forward to working with John again.

Having started out as an absolute beginner in the field of manual photography, I can safely say that John Grech truly mastered his teaching role both on the theoretical aspect as well as the practical aspect. I chose photography as my Systems of Knowledge project with the intention of hopefully carrying it out further in the future, and thanks to the undying support both within the course and after it had ended, I am slowly achieving my dreams – thanks to him. The individual attention he gives to his students evidently shows that his dedication truly goes a long way. I would recommend his wide array of courses to anyone who has an open mind, is determined, and is ready to get their hands (and sd cards) dirty.

Attending these photography lessons was a great experience. John is very attentive to individual needs and ensures that everyone understands and has a chance to express themselves. I now look at photography as a means of expression and I have seen a great improvement between my photography when I started and my photography now.

During this course I learnt how to use a camera. I also learnt how to frame a scene and what to look out for when taking a photo. I started out this course knowing nothing about cameras or how to properly use one. John Grech taught me how to use a camera properly, I now never use the automatic setting as I have learnt how to set the camera properly for each scene. I found this course very interesting and helpful and I now look at photography differently and have a new appreciation for it.

This photography course was definitely one to remember. Due to this course I made new friends and I learned how to use a DSLR camera. Photography is a way how to capture a life moment. I learned a lot of different techniques and how to take different photos in different situations and areas. This course helped me to acknowledge the detail in the photos I take, it also helped me to analyse a situation and capture a moment during the action. During this course we went on various workshops, my favourite ones where definitely the day shoot at Birgu Waterfront and the ballet show at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. This course allowed me to appreciate all types of photos, photography gave me a creative fulfilment and allowed me to express myself artistically.
John my mentor, is a very knowledgeable teacher, thorough with his explanations and extremely patient. He makes you feel comfortable asking questions, explains things very simply and makes difficult concepts seem really easy. He knows his subject so deeply that all his explanations are incredibly clear.

I would like to tell you that I had a wonderful time while in your class. I was only a beginner before I signed up and now I am quite confident not only with my camera but how to take good shots and what to look out for while shooting. We were a small bunch in our class and I felt that we all benefitted from that. Not only were we given a professional opinion from yourself on any photos we took during our course we also learnt from each others photos in our class too. I found your approach to teaching very interesting. Relaxed and very informative. Even our outdoor excursions (Night and day) were fun and I learnt a lot from there too.
I would recommend your classes to anybody that comes my way.
Thank you for your sound teaching and guidance.

I basically I had to choose a field of study I wanted to further develop for my Systems of Knowledge Project. The fact that I am an artistic person in nature, having painted from a young age photography in general always interested me. The ability to use this medium to express yourself using a lens, was a perfect fit for me.
Mr Grech, made the course super interesting, he thought us how to use a camera to its full ability, giving us a background of how a camera works. We learnt from going on site photo sessions which meant we put what we learnt in practice.
The fact that every week we would show him the images we took throughout the week, meant we could see how our abilities developed throughout the course.
